Principal Experience Architect

Job Seeker Mobile App

A leading staffing firm needed to provide an end-to-end native app experience for job seekers to find and apply for jobs, schedule interviews, accept job offers, and enter time reports. I led the strategy and UX architecture of an award-winning app through a multi-year client relationship.

User need:

Job seekers needed a personalized experience for searching for and applying for jobs.

Challenge:

This app needed to stand out from competitors and drive engagement and conversion at a time when job marketplace apps were proliferating.

Solution:

The app leveraged intuitive searching and filtering as well as the client’s proprietary AI to surface jobs that job seekers were looking for.

Fast, one-tap job applications encouraged users to create accounts and apply to many jobs.

A personalized dashboard made if fast and easy to move through the hiring process.

Strong client leadership began with authentic, collaborative relationships.

  • I developed strong relationships with primary product champion and executive stakeholders over the course of more than 3 years

  • I regularly led discovery and design workshops, product strategy workshops, as well as facilitated the creation of strategic digital vision and business objectives

  • My expertise and guidance set the design direction not only for the mobile app but for the client’s internal teams working on related platforms

User need:

Job seekers needed to provide enough detail about their qualifications and preferences in order to be matched with ideal job opportunities.

Challenge:

Users needed motivation to provide detailed information and to keep it up to date, particularly when they are likely to be doing this with multiple competitors.

Solution:

A concise, visual representation of the user’s professional profile. made it easy to see and maintain information.

Multiple entry points and flows prompted the user to update information as time passed.

This information provided recruiters with critical information that previously was only gathered by a manual phone call.

Designing a product through to maturity required vision, diligence, and a focus on customer value.

  • My design decisions were grounded in market research, user testing, and analytics that allowed me to identify areas of greatest value

  • As the product’s complexity increased, I had to advocate for overcoming operational and technical constraints in order to create a great experience

  • Staying true to the vision of delivering great experiences for the full customer life cycle meant designing with future flexibility in mind and safeguarding against unnecessary compromises

User need:

Job seekers being considered for a job needed to arrange for an interview with the hiring manager.

Challenge:

The app needed to present dynamic time slots as well as the ability to reschedule and cancel interviews.

Solution:

Push notifications alerted the user to time-sensitive scheduling opportunities.

Flows were created for time slot selections as well as alternatives if the time slots didn’t work.

Once scheduled, the user could easily access the information, add it to their personal calendar, reschedule or cancel the interview.

A high-performing team thrives in a collaborative, supportive, learning culture.

  • I created and adapted multiple processes to ensure our design and delivery quality was exceptional, including app mapping, review and approval processes, and accessibility planning

  • My team was committed to giving all disciplines full visibility and involvement in design decisions and to providing each other detailed and honest feedback and support

  • I mentored new and junior UX team members, giving them the opportunities and support to grow and learn

A mature, complex product like this app needed thorough and approachable documentation for use in planning analytics, onboarding new team members, and clearly visualizing the impact of future changes.

Opportunities to drive business growth occur in every client interaction.

  • I was an integral part of shaping the Statements of Work that kept our team continuously delivering for this client over multiple years

  • My role in establishing a strategic vision for our product allowed us to have a well-planned roadmap 2-3 years ahead

  • My expertise became trusted such that I was asked to advise on initiatives that spanned multiple products and areas of their business
